Practical support

Supportive Care is available for people with cancer and people affected by cancer such as family members, whanau, friends and workmates.

Services to support you, your family and friends are available in your area. We welcome anyone to make contact to discuss what services are available as we are more than happy to provide support and assistance to anyone in need of information, support or guidance. Health professionals, family/whanau or friends may also make contact with our team on your behalf, with your permission.

All services are strictly confidential.

The following services are provided through the Cancer Society:

  • Cancer Information Helpline - 0800 CANCER (0800 226 237)
  • Cancer Information resources - booklets, pamphlets, information sheets, website, videos
  • Community Health Professional Support Staff/Volunteers
  • Facilitated support groups/programmes/seminars. 
  • Self-help support networks
  • Counselling and Psycho-social services
  • Breast Cancer Support and prostheses fitting service (appointments required)
  • Assistance with transport to treatment which includes volunteer driving services
  • Accommodation for people undergoing cancer treatment at regional Cancer Centres
  • Cancer Connect -telephone linking service

  • Library Service
  • Lymphoedema support and information services
  • Advocacy
  • Links to other local community service providers
