“Will it grow back? Will I be completely grey? Will my children recognise me?” Senior Business Banking Manager for ANZ, Matthew Gregory says he is nervous about shaving his head for Daffodil Day but is doing it for a good cause.
Matt came up with the idea to get a team together and fundraise for the Cancer Society after having lost two aunties and a cousin to cancer “My cousin passed away last month and she had two kids aged 3 and 6” he said.
Joining Matt this year are four work mates: Matt, Matt, Matt and Cam (we’re not making this up) and together they hope to raise $8,000 for the Cancer Society and to support Daffodil Day.
The money raised on Daffodil Day supports patients with cancer and their families as well as fund breakthrough cancer research and help reduce the incidence of cancer. The support also helps in providing Daffodil House, a home-away-from home in Dunedin.
Last year, the Cancer Society welcomed guests for 2,132 nights at Daffodil House and assisted 1,323 clients and their families/whānau.
One of Matt's colleagues, Senior Personal Banker, Cam Warn says “I have had a number of family members taken by cancer and the Cancer Society were amazing with them. I decided it would be a great way to give back for the awesome work they’ve done with my family in the past.”
Cancer Society Otago and Southland CEO Mark Hamer is grateful for the support of Matt and his team and encourages the public to get behind this great cause. “Thanks to the support of our community and through fundraisers like this, the Cancer Society can continue to provide our services free to people in Otago and Southland who are impacted by cancer” he says.
Hair Stylists at Aart on St Andrews have offered to help with the shave which will be taking place out the front of the ANZ on Moray Place in Dunedin around 10am on Daffodil Day Friday, 31st August.
